Kubu
Off the beaten path — where dramatic drop-offs, pristine reefs, and the chance of encountering pelagic giants await the adventurous diver.
Explore dive spotsBali's hidden diving frontier
Kubu lies just east of Tulamben, yet remains one of Bali's most underexplored diving areas. This quiet stretch of coastline offers dramatic underwater topography — steep walls plunging into deep blue waters, pristine coral gardens untouched by mass tourism, and currents that attract larger marine life rarely seen elsewhere along the coast.
For divers looking to go beyond the famous sites, Kubu delivers raw, authentic ocean experiences. The area includes the legendary Gili Selang — Bali's easternmost point — where strong currents create conditions for encounters with hammerhead sharks, oceanic sunfish, and large pelagic schools. This is diving at its most adventurous.
Dive Advisory
Some Kubu sites feature strong currents and are recommended for experienced divers. Conditions at Gili Selang are weather-dependent. We always assess conditions on the day and will recommend alternatives if needed to ensure your safety.
Kubu's Best Dive Sites
Kubu Drop Off
A dramatic wall dive dropping into the deep blue. Strong currents occasionally bring pelagic visitors including reef sharks, mola mola (in season), and large schools of trevally. The wall itself is covered in stunning gorgonian fans and black coral trees. Advanced divers can explore deeper sections where encounters with larger marine life become more frequent.
Book This DiveKubu Reef
A beautiful and unspoilt coral reef sloping gently from shallow waters. Hard coral coverage here is among the best in northeast Bali, with staghorn, table, and brain corals providing habitat for a dazzling array of reef fish. Turtles are regularly spotted cruising along the reef, and the lack of crowds means a peaceful, intimate diving experience.
Book This DiveGili Selang
An advanced dive site located at the easternmost tip of Bali, known for strong currents that bring exceptional visibility and large marine life. Hammerhead sharks, oceanic sunfish, and large schools of barracuda are reported here. This challenging site requires experience with current diving and is weather-dependent — but the rewards are extraordinary.
